9-10-24   THOUGHTS

This morning, famous words from our Lord.  Several places in the NT refer to the “double minded” man.  This is one who has discounted Gen 6:4-5 which is quoted in  Mark 12:33  AND TO LOVE HIM WITH ALL THE HEART AND WITH ALL THE UNDERSTANDING AND WITH ALL THE STRENGTH, AND TO LOVE ONE’S NEIGHBOR AS HIMSELF, is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."  The double minded man wants the best of two worlds.  God’s word says that is not possible!  Matt 6:24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”  Our reading speaks to this problem area.  Jesus Himself is speaking!  He focuses on our anxiety as we struggle with the battle between  FLESH & SPIRIT!  “SEEK His Kingdom!”  Matt 6:33.

Luke 12:22-32    And He said to His disciples, "For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on.  23  "For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.  24  "Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds!  25  "And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life’s span?  26  "If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters?  27  "Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 28  "But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith! 29  "And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying. 30  "For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. 31  "But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you. 32  "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.

My Prayer:
Father, we are so small, and You are so far beyond and above us. Help us to trust in You with our all!   It’s easy for us to take on things we cannot possibly control.  Give us the peace we can have through faith and trust.  Set our minds. O God, on Your Kingdom and on spiritual things.
Help us to think up and not down.  Remind us always the You Know, and that You have chosen gladly to give us the kingdom.   Accept our love and thanksgiving and our praise.
In the name of our Savior,    Amen.
